The life and reign of both King David and King Solomon perfectly illustrates the rest God wants all men to enter into in through Jesus. The entire life of David was full of wars, battles and contention with enemies of Israel. It was in his heart to build the temple of God but wasn’t allowed by God. It was his son Solomon God approved to build such temple. Most of the materials used in building of the temple were contributed and laid in stock by David. All King Solomon did was to enter into a life of conquest made available through his father. He build the temple without stress because all the materials were made available by his father. All the relationships he needed were established by his father especially with King Hiram.
Like King David, Jesus has done the underground work for us. He had won the battles over the nature of sin, over the claims of the devil over lives. He has defeated the enemies of our soul.
_Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it._
Our greatest fears has been dealt with by Him.
_Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage._
Not only did Jesus like King David leave for us a kingdom where the devil and forces of darkness has been vanquished and subdued and subject to us, He also has made it possible our lives becoming the temple God builds so He dwells.
_Ephesians 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit._
All Jesus went through was for our sake. He had us in mind when He suffered all He did for we were in Him when He was condemned to death for we were both condemned in Him, died with Him, was raised back to life in Him and declared justified in Him. King Solomon entered into a sweat less reign where all required from him is continuous acknowledgement of what his father had done, keep being aware the Philistines, Edomites, the Aramites and other nations have been defeated and continuity in enforcing such.
Jesus has fought all our battles for us and have won them. All He expects of us is to walk and live from the place of victory, a place of acknowledging what He has accomplished and done in us. No matter what comes our way, we are to approach them all from the place of victory. We are to by acknowledging God’s provision for all things through Jesus enforce the Word of God into all things until they conform to God’s Word. When Jesus looks at the nations of the world, He still sees men who He had delivered from the power of sin and the devil still under the hold of sin and bondage of the devil. Nothing hurts the heart of Jesus than to see those who are free men living as slaves and captives.
This is why missions is very necessary. Many men are yet to walk in the freedom and victory Jesus has used all His life to accomplish. As Solomon’s reign was one of rest on all sides and full of glory, God wants us to enter into His rest from the yoke of the nature of sin and hold of the devil as well as victims of life’s challenges and circumstances. He wants us to walk through life from the place of victory.
_1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith._
As the reign of Solomon was full of glory compared to David, Jesus wants us to do greater works than He did. This us because He has made all things available for us to live a better life than the one He lived for He lived primarily as the lamb to take away the sins of the world while we live primarily to declare God’s praise.
If all men must know of what Jesus had done, if the hold of the devil over many will be broken, if men are going to live a life of rest and full of the love and peace of God, it is only as the gospel gets to them. A call to go into all nations and make disciples is a call to make the truth of who Jesus is and what He had done available to all men so they can walk in such victory and freedom, no longer struggling in a battle that has been won but ignorant of.
